Position: Large Equipment Operator, Equipment Operator III position (State Classified) available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, to be assigned at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. Minimum Requirements: Three years of experience operating equipment appropriated to the work assignment (see duties below). Special Requirements: Must have a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License. Please indicate drivers license number, class and expiration date on application. Must have the ability to obtain a military driver's license. This position must be able to obtain a pesticide applicators license. Must be US Forest Service certified to fight wild land fires. Willingness and Ability: Must be willing and able to pass a background check; must be willing and able to work in rugged environmental conditions and surroundings. Must be willing and able to meet the physical demands of the job including very heavy lifting (in excess of 100 lbs occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 lbs constantly); climbing up to 75 feet, standing on your feet for long periods of time, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, crawling, balancing, and stooping, working in hazardous conditions with proximity to moving mechanical parts. Responsibilities: This position will operate large equipment to include tractor with towed equipment, road maintainer, scraper, up to a 5-yard loader, up to D-7 bulldozers, chipper, tamper, and 3-axle trucks with up to 20-ton capacity. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:*Maintain training areas using tractors and heavy equipment. Seed areas, plant sod, and place erosion control materials. Maintain secondary roads and maintain ditches. Clean, replace, and install culverts. Maintain check dams and stream crossing sites. Install erosion control measures, maintain native grass seedlings, and control unwanted trees and brush in open maneuver space. *Operate equipment for erosion control projects. Operate bush hog on training areas and mow vegetation. Remove storm damaged and felled trees from roads and training areas. Participate in prescribed burn projects. Shred unwanted vegetation and maintain areas after timber harvests.*Maintains and keeps inventory of equipment and materials.
